Why Post-Ramadan Is The Best Time To Start A Quran Class

When Ramadan is over, many people strive to maintain the month's good spiritual rituals. Some people fast every Monday and Thursday, while others focus more on Sadaqah (charity), and still, others consider taking a Quran class. All of these are excellent ideas, with the last one being especially useful following Ramadan.

Why is After Ramadan the Best Time to Start a Quran Class?

The best time to start a Quran class is after Ramadan because we have grown accustomed to reading and reciting Quran every day and night in Ramadan, including for Taraweeh and Tahajjud prayers, more so than we do the rest of the year. It is therefore easier to start learning Quran and memorizing it while you still have that momentum and connection to the Quran.

Many of us attempted to complete the Quran this Ramadan, spending at least an hour per day listening to or reading the Quran.

When Ramadan is over, enroll in a Quran course and set aside some time according to your schedule, possibly after Asr or Maghrib or anytime that is convenient for you, and dedicate it to reading or listening to the Quran. This will help you maintain your relationship with the Quran and retain the amazing spiritual feeling you felt during Ramadan.

It will be extremely beneficial to learn Quran immediately following Ramadan so that you can learn how to read Quran correctly and find the mistakes you have made while reciting during the month. This will also guide you to the proper method of reading the Quran for the next Ramadan insha'Allah.

Due to COVID-19 restrictions still in place in many parts of the world, taking an online Quran class might be just what you need! Online Quran learning is just as effective as going to a physical place to learn but without the hassle of the commute and while keeping you and your family safe during the pandemic.

7 Benefits Of Taking A Quran Class

Quran learning is a key part of Muslims' lives - adults and children. When we fulfill that part, we get Allah's blessings and rewards. Here are some reasons to encourage you to start a Quran class today:

1. It's Sunnah

Following in the footsteps of our Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) is one of the best things any Muslim can do. He used to read the Quran and follow Allah's guidance, so following him by learning and reading the Holy Quran increases your good deed balance and brings you closer to Allah.

"There has certainly been for you in the Messenger of Allah an excellent pattern for anyone whose hope is in Allah and the Last Day and [who] remembers Allah often." (Surah Al-Ahzaab, 33:21)

2. Quran Guards You on the Day of Resurrection (Qiyamah)

Reading and learning the Quran will help you in the Afterlife, as it will defend you regardless of any mistakes you may have made, with the forgiveness of Allah. This should encourage you to never abandon the Quran and to be eager to learn and recite the Quran correctly.

"Recite the Quran, for it will come as an intercessor for its reciters on the Day of Resurrection." (Sahih Muslim, 804)

3. The Quran Has All The Answers

Allah encourages us to observe and think about everything around us. These observations may lead to further questions, which have been answered in the Quran centuries ago. No matter what questions you have, the satisfying answers lie in this Holy book.

Keep in mind, some answers may be obstructed by your misunderstanding of the meaning of certain phrases. This is why it is critical to take Quran lessons from an experienced teacher in order to make sense of what you read on your own.

4. You Learn From Generations Of Allah's Messengers (AS)

There is nothing more accurate than the narration of Allah to His messengers' stories. You get to know about them and the lessons learned from their sinful people's mistakes. Based on these insightful stories, you will now have a better idea of what your deeds might result in.

"There was certainly in their stories a lesson for those of understanding. Never was the Quran a narration invented, but a confirmation of what was before it and a detailed explanation of all things and guidance and mercy for a people who believe." (Surah Yusuf, 12:111)

5. It's Never Been Easier!

Learning Quran and how to recite flawlessly by learning Tajweed has never been more accessible. You can start an online Tajweed course based on your own schedule and have a professional Quran tutor wherever you are. Most importantly: remember that Allah SWT has made it easy for us to read, recite, learn and memorize the Quran - we just need to put in our best effort.

"And We have certainly made the Quran easy for remembrance, so is there any who will remember?" (Surah Al-Qamar, 54:17)

6. You Can Teach It To Someone Else

When you learn the Quran from someone who is professional and well-trained, you gradually gain the skill of passing these methods on to someone else and you will get Allah's reward every time they read the Quran correctly based on your teaching.

This person could be your child, your sibling, or a friend who wants to learn. The reward is worth all the effort as it has been narrated by 'Uthman that, The Prophet (PBUH) said:

"The best among you (Muslims) are those who learn the Quran and teach it." (Sahih al-Bukhari, 5027)

7. The Quran Brings Peace To Your Life

Setting time aside each day to read and learn the Quran will bring peace and tranquility to your life. Furthermore, reading and listening to the Quran when you are troubled instantly heals your soul and brings you inner peace.

"And we send down of the Quran that which is healing and mercy for the believers, but it does not increase the wrongdoers except in loss." (Surah Al-Israa', 17:82)

7 Rules And Tips For Learning Quran

1. Do it for the sake of Allah. Make sure your intention is right: learn the Quran for the sake of Allah alone, as we get rewarded according to our intentions. Furthermore, learning the Quran in order to boast about it or show off will destroy one's actions, have consequences on their Afterlife, and could incur the wrath of Allah.

2. The Quran should be recited with reverence and focus of the heart and mind. This is what we learned from Prophet Muhammad's (PBUH) Sunnah and the traditions of his companions.

3. One should learn from a teacher who has proficient knowledge. He or she should have knowledge of the Quran with Tajweed and Tafsir, so that we can understand the Quran better.

4. It's best to understand the content. Understanding what you're learning and reading, as well as pondering over it, are essential components of the entire process of learning Quran.

5. Learn it then pass it on. It is part of our deen to try our best to learn the Quran and pass this knowledge on to others, and some scholars have actually emphasized that it is either an individual or a communal obligation to do so. Teach what you learn to family members, kids, friends, or others in the community who want to learn.

6. Muslims should revise continuously when they memorize or learn Quran. It is considered a sin to forget the Quran after acquiring its knowledge, so we must revise in order to avoid forgetting what we have learned.

7. Muslims should be in the state of Wudu (ablution) while reciting. The place where you recite Quran must be free of impurities as well. That should be applied even if you're taking online Quran lessons.

Life gets busy, but there is no excuse for not starting to learn Quran today, so you get to make use of the aforementioned benefits. Do not be discouraged because you feel like you will need to dedicate so much time each week to a Quran class, you can start with as little as a 30-60 minute class per week for instance. Remember the hadith of the Prophet (PBUH) reported by Abu Huraira (RA): "Take up good deeds only as much as you are able, for the best deeds are those done regularly even if they are few." (Sunan Ibn Mājah 4240).
